FAQs:

Back to School Night

1. Will there be a virtual back to school night?

HCPSS back to school night programs will be in person. 

Cell Phones

1. Are cell phones ok on the bus? In school?

The same rules in the school apply to the bus. This includes mask wearing, eating, and cell phones. Cell phones should be off and away at all times including lunch, recess, change of class and bathrooms. Students may make a call from the front office if necessary. 

Clubs

1. What days of the week will clubs be held after school?

More information will be coming on this from Ms. Cunningham, 7th grade administrator, in the coming weeks.

Chromebooks

1. We did not receive a chromebook last year. Will one still be provided? 

Chromebooks have been issued for every student. Please contact the school to obtain your child’s computer. 

2. What should be done if there are problems with the Chromebook?

            Should an HCPSS Chromebook become damaged, students/parents should  

           bring the damaged device to their student’s school or to the Old Bushy Park 

           Elementary School support center.

Fall Festival

1. Is there any other info about the fall festival? How did the idea for it come about?  What is hoped for as to what will occur?

This idea began from a conversation with administration and PTA. We would like to celebrate the BBMS community with an outdoor event to celebrate being back in school and join in fellowship, games, etc in a carnival type atmosphere. This will take many hands for a memorable event. Please contact Michelle Horner, PTA president, or administration if you would like to be involved. 

Family File and Portal

1. Can each parent set up the parent portal?

Support with this can be achieved by calling the school and they will assist.

Health and Safety

1. Will parents be notified if a student in one of their classes tests positive?

Parents will be notified if their child is considered a close contact and will need to quarantine. We do not disclose the name of the student that tests positive.

2. Must we provide proof of COVID vaccine?

It is not required at this point for students to provide proof of covid vaccine BUT if your child did get their Covid vaccines it would be great for the health room staff to have it so we can document this in synergy.

Lockers and Backpacks

1. My daughter left her shelves in her locker before covid. Is she still able to salvage those?

Please call the school to arrange to pick up locker shelves that were not picked up at the end of last year. The front office can have them for you to pick up during school hours.

2. Are all lockers the same size?

Lockers are all tall lockers of the same length.

3. Can my child carry a backpack all day?

Yes.

Lunch

1. Can the students opt to eat outdoors some days and indoor others? Will this be available from day 1

Yes, outdoor dining will be available from day 1. The outdoor lunch option is being provided to make students and families more comfortable due to students  not wearing masks while eating. We would assume this would be consistent each day. However, we can work with the family if this is not the case. We are still working out options for weather related problems including rain and cold weather. We will keep this updated. 

2. Will BBMS be getting tents for outdoor lunch? What will be the plan for luch when the cold weather starts?

We will keep you updated as information become available. 

3. How do we sign our child up for outdoor lunch?

4. Are there assigned seats at lunch?

Students may choose their seats, but will be asked to remain in the same location once they decide.

Masks

1. How will mask wearing be enforced on the bus?

Bus drivers will alert administration if students are in violation of the mask mandate. Cameras do exist on our busses.

Outdoor Education

1. Is BBMS considering doing Outdoor Ed for 6th graders? 

Decisions regarding outdoor education will be made at the county level. At this time overnight trips are not being approved.

Procedures

1. How do we pick up our children for appointments etc?

Our building is open. We are returning to normal procedures. Masks must be worn, but you may certainly come to the building to retrieve your child.

Quarantining

1. If kids are sick or quarantined, will they get virtual lessons during the quarantine time?

Schedule Questions

1. Do the students always go to period 1 first or usually to the homeroom? 

Students should report to period one each day.

School Opening

1. When does school start?

School starts Monday, August 30. The student day is 8:10-2:55.

2. When will individual schedules be posted?

Schedules are not visible. Printed copies of schedules will be provided 8/30.

Transportation

1. When will we know the bus numbers and time of arrival

HCPSS transportation will be contacting families via email. 

Water bottles

1. Is it compulsory for the water bottle to be plastic and see through.

After consideration, we will not require the water bottle to be plastic or see through.
